A Guide to Using ZOOM:
I use a platform called Zoom. Download the zoom app here. It's free.
By now you may have been in a Zoom session among your friends, family or communities.
Here are some helpful tips:
-
Here is an introductory video to help you get started.
-
If you have a computer, choose that over the iPad or iPhone. Not only will the sound be better but also you can interact more and see more of others. If you are able to connect your computer to an external speaker, you will have an enhanced audio experience. If you are using a phone for the meeting, then headphones or buds will enhance your sound quality, as well. Find more info about testing computer or device audio HERE
-
As you join the session, you will be MUTED. Please stay MUTED. This enhances the sound for everyone. Don't worry we will be able to say hello/goodbye at the end of the session. We can chat with each other in the CHAT window. You can use this space to ask any questions and I will try to answer them for you.
-
Make some space to dance. If you are in a shared space, find a room to yourself so you can dance un-self consciously. Or invite your housemates and/or family to join you. Minimize distractions (doorbell/ email/ phone/household appliances/TV) so that you can be as present as possible.
-
Wear comfortable clothes to move in and have your water bottle nearby.
How do I join online?
Click the Zoom Registration link . You'll be asked to enter your name and email address, and then you'll see a link to click to join the room.
How much does it cost?
Suggested $5 donation
To donate, go to Paypal or Venmo
Proceeds will go to End 68 Hours of Hunger
Will it be recorded?
No, this is an in-the-moment event. Please don't record the music or take any photos of the group.
What time does the dance start?
Dance starts at 9:30. I will open the session at 9:15 if you want to come in early to check sound & warm up. Please be on time, and stay to the end of the session. Your presence makes a difference.
Some helpful features of Zoom
-
Speaker view and Grid/Gallery view – you can toggle between the two to see the difference. Grid view is recommended when we’re dancing, so we see and get inspired by each other.
-
The ability to MUTE AND UNMUTE – when you are on ‘mute’ it reduces feedback that can occur. Everyone will be muted until the end of the session when we can say goodbye to each other.
-
The ability to have your VIDEO OFF AND ON. Keep it on as it helps build connection. Your presence matters!
-
The CHAT feature – via the ‘Speech bubble’ icon in the bottom bar. If you are having technical problems, this is the place to go.
-
The ability to NAME YOURSELF if you haven’t already – click the three dots in your own window.
LASTLY, deep gratitude to all my teachers for sharing their expertise
in order for us to come together online!!
